I’ve really been getting into essential oils as of late. I’m so glad I did! They always intrigued me and seemed like an awesome way to get some great health benefits without some of the awful side effects that many meds can have. While essential oils can’t fix everything, they can help with a lot.
Case and point: For the past month or so, I’ve been having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I’ve always had problems remembering my dreams. Essential oils have been great in helping with both of these issues.
I got a water diffuser back in December and wanted to start trying things. I heard peppermint was good for migraines, and let me tell you– it is AMAZING! So I didn’t use my diffuser for many other purposes for a long time. But I started noticing that my blend of peppermint, lavender, and eucalyptus was helping me sleep better. So I started experimenting with amount and which ones for several months. I found that lavender in particular was helping me sleep better and deeper.
Last week, I decided I wanted to try something different. I wanted something more geared toward actually sleeping better, instead of a migraine blend that I made work for sleeping. I tried this recently, and it was wonderful. It smells yummy and I’ve been dreaming more and remembering it more than I have in a looooong time. While my blends are not precise in amount (I pour in what I need and only kind of count drops), this is my approximate blend.
- 5 drops lavender
- 2 drops ylang ylang
- 2 drops clary sage
- 1 drop chamomile
Each one is good for sleeping and relieving anxiety, which is one of my biggest reasons for not being able to sleep at night. I diffuse this as I’m laying down for bed. Anymore, I’m asleep in 15-30 minutes, compared to the hour it used to take!
All of these oils are pretty easy to get and not very expensive, which is always a plus in my book. I hope that this blend will help you sleep better in the future!
